Mish Mosh

A moment for myself while I eat breakfast, enjoy a cup of coffee, and avoid my daily “to-do” list. Gathering my thoughts…

Knitting – I’m so close to finishing Lorelai’s baby blanket! I’m on the seed stitch border right now, just a few more rows. It’s made with Blue Sky Organic Cotton in a great green color, I’m thinking about putting some hearts or a small “L” on it using duplicate stitch in pink. I don’t mind the idea of hand washing (or gentle cycle washing) it, I just hope it holds up to baby drool and spit up. I started the front of her “Amelie” dress, the back is finished. I am thinking about not doing flowers all over it, instead maybe just a heart – I saw one on ravelry that was really cute. It looks so long! Which brings us to…

Lorelai – She had a doctor’s appointment yesterday for her one month check up – she’s 23.25 inches long now (off the chart!) and weighs 10pounds, 7 ounces! She’s got quite the case of baby acne right now – while she’s still adorable, photos are a little tricky, hopefully it will clear up sooner rather than later. Sometimes I wonder, what are people thinking when they talk about babies. Especially people who have had babies of their own! L was a little fussy the other afternoon (hunger was the most likely cause) but not overly so – and someone said to me, “Could she be teething?” – Um, she’s just A MONTH OLD!! – according to this, the earliest is 3 months. Oy. And I’ve also been told to “Lighten Up”. Grrr. I take my kid seriously and while I may laugh at the faces she makes while crying, I am deeply invested in what’s going on with her. After spending all day with her and getting up in the night with her, I don’t automatically think to joke when I question something she does.

101 things #46 – I placed an order with Peapod (part of Stop & Shop) – it arrived on time, every thing was there and I feel I got a good deal. I have been trying to avoid using plastic bags while shopping (I usually bring my own canvas bags) – so that’s a down side – everything comes in plastic! Ugh. Maybe I’ll write them a letter – I would rather pay an extra fee to have my stuff delivered in reuasable bags (or a big box or something).

Movies – Saw Waitress the other day – really cute, very sweet movie. Two thumbs up! I think Keri Russell is becoming one of my new favorite actresses.

Shrug.

What a blah day. I got a bit of knitting done – and caught up on netflix movies – ones that have been sitting here and Dan didn’t want to watch them. I watched Babel first. Wow. Visually impressive and overall heart-wrenching complex story. I really liked it. I had started “Shrug This” from the One Skein Wonders book. I actually had the exact yarn in my stash, how often does that happen? This was a very quick knit – and I’m pleased with the results…
Shrug (FO!)

It’s cute from the back:
Shrug Back

But I will never wear this. What can I do with it? Swap it? Donate it to a charity? Think it would fit a 4-year old girl? (I might be able to pass it on, but I feel a little weird about that one, like I’m giving this kid a grown-up castoff)
Shrug Front

Oh well. Call this one a process is more important than the finished project?

The second movie of the day was The Queen – another excellent movie. I’ve been working on my Pick Up Sticks Sushi Wallet Kit – I’ve had it for over a year, started it and hadn’t brought an extra needle with me in the car ride when I started it, so it was hibernating. Seems to moving along quickly.

There were local sales this week in town. I caved at the baby store and bought some clothes for the lil’butterball.
Baby clothes
I now understand the difficulty of not knowing the baby’s gender when one wants to go shopping!! Oh well. It did keep my spending in check 🙂 A little bug hat / top set and a second top and a plain long sleeve onesie that I’ll embroider or do something fun too (hopefully…I did pick up some iron on transfers at Michael’s a while back…)

I’ve started another pair of socks too – Roza’s Socks using the yarn from the Lime and Violet Magic Yarn Ball Swap – this yarn is so subtle in it’s color changes – I love it, and I am loving the fact that these pinky-purple-grey are not my usual color choices too! However, I’m knitting it on the tiniest needles! Seems to be taking a while.

Movie night

Last night Dan and I went out for dinner (hibachi yum!) and then out to a movie – impromptu date night! We went to see Disturbia – creepy yes, but almost funny as we were at a 7:40 showing and there was a whole lot of pre- / teenage girls in the audience screaming / screeching just to scream / screech.

The best part though was when we were standing in line to buy the tickets. There was a couple behind us, and they were looking up at the board of movies / showtimes. The woman said to the man, “Oh, 28 weeks later – that’s the sequel to the Sandra Bullock movie where she was in rehab – it was really well done.”

Um, right. We were hoping that they would buy tickets for that, but they didn’t.

I spent most of yesterday catching up on podcasts (I started listening to Material Mama – going to find more sewing related things… might as well work up on my sewing machine when I’ve got the time coming this summer.) and working on the string bag – finally figured out my goof on the pattern. So after 3 starts I’ve finally got it and I’m maybe 3/4 of the way done with the bag portion. It’s going quickly, so good on that.

New York New York

Last night we went into New York to visit a brother, his girlfriend and the other brother. We ate at Otto – and oh, wow – was it delish!! Cheese plates are brilliant. And a cheese with honey? And another with cherries? Inspiring!

I finished one Peekaboo mitten on the train there / back.

I’m pooped right now as we didn’t get back until 2:30 and Jackson woke us up around 7:30. Today will be a day of lounging around, though I do have to work on school related stuff (yuck).

America’s Sweethearts is on right now – great movie! (“Kiki!!”) I love John Cusack

Saturday Sky & Other

I’ve never done a “Saturday Sky” before, but I liked how this picture came out:

I’m on vacation! Yay!

My projects are a little bit in a stuck place – I did finish Sock #1 of the socks for Dan:

I need a shorter needle for the sleeves on the hourglass sweater.

I signed up for SockMadness, I may be crazy.

We watched Open Season last night – it was really funny! Of course, we are partial to anything with dachshunds…

Doesn’t that look like the sweater I made him??

Stay Warm & Toasty!
