Birthday Nutshell

So now, I’m 30 plus 1. As my dad said to me on Saturday, having birthdays is much better than the alternative you know. Thanks dad. 🙂 It was a really good birthday – I got to do a little bit of everything! And there’s stuff to look forward to – like U2!!!! – September 20 cannot get here soon enough!

On Saturday I also went to a shower for a fellow knitter – it was such a nice event and how cool it was to be able to pull out the knitting and NO ONE thinks twice about it?! And to not be the only one knitting?! Good times!
I just wish I had taken more photos! I had a lot of fun knitting up a hat and puppet for the new baby.
Anne & Baby Maggie's Hat
Flower Hat for baby Bug, now with eyes!
I wish I could have stayed longer (these gals are a lot of fun to hang out with!) but I *had* to come home so we could head out for birthday dinner at Cafe Goodfellas – fantastic!

I was gifted gift certificates to the LYSs around here so I’ll be project planning soon. I was also gifted a skein of Hudson Valley (Martha’s Vineyard) Fiber Farm Yarn:
It’s not so red, more raspberry-ish, but soft and gorgeous!

And yarn arrived in the mail! Adding to my sock yarn stash, Schaefer Yarn “Nichole” in Indigo, Sage and Bluebell:
Schaefer Yarns

And my “payment” from Lorna’s Laces – yarn to make Sundog for Lorelai – Island Blue and Iris Garden.
Sundog WIP

I finished a pair of socks – Yarn Harlot’s basic sock recipe, j.knits “Florida” colorway:
Juice Socks
I really love how it knit up – I was a bit unsure about the skein – it was so bright!

Today, I got a birthday gift from Betsy – small sock appropriate stitch markers – for the decreases and “yo’s” – I’m looking at doing “Ishbel” so they will also be so handy for that!! Thank you!
New Stitch Markers!

I can feel the multiple projects creeping up on me again – I have so many ideas and it’s hard to get those stitches I picture in my head to the actual fabric! I think summer is good for that, the slate is clean for the moment – even if the nutshell is cluttered!

This post is full of random content

I got an early birthday (June 20) present today – a new ipod! 80Gb / video baby! Wow – now I need many more video podcasts! Suggestions? Are there knitting videos for the ipods yet? I had a lot of fun moving through the music library – all I want to do is sort through my cds too!

I’ve started the Saturday Market Bag from magknits using Lion Cotton. I think I messed up somewhere – the 4th row repeat didn’t make sense to me – p3? I could p2 and then drop the yo… I had to rip out the first attempt as I misread p2 to be purl 2 together for some odd reason.

Reminder to self: You joined the June XY along at Get Stitchy – make the bowtie.

I picked up a new magazine yesterday, Kiwi – it’s about organic living and stuff. There was a great advertising surprise inside from my new favorite snack company, Fruitabu – there was a magnet, coupon for a free box, iron on transfers and stickers! My other new favorite snack are the Impossibly Good Flat Earth veggie crisps (Garlic and Herb) – serving of veggies while I think I’m eating chips? Excellent.

Since I don’t have the shorter needle that I need to continue on with the Hourglass Sweater (I’ll get it today), I cast on last night for Santa Cruz from magknits. I’m using knitpicks Wool of the Andes in “Rain”, so it works for project spectrum.

I found out that my cousin Jaimie is engaged! I am very happy for him, and am excited to meet his fiance (she wasn’t able to come to the family Christmas Eve event). Now I’m obsessed with the idea of making an afghan / blanket for them. Cables are a must, irish inspired also. I’m thinking white / cream colors (as I know nothing about their home) or maybe grey with an accent color… Ideas I have already bookmarked:
St.Patrick’s Day Afghan (maybe good for others in my family? One square for a pillow??)
I really like this Celtic Knot Afghan – it looks like hearts!
Aran pattern stitch info
Although I also really like this: Wooly Thoughts Tilting at windmills
And I think I like this: Lion Brand patchwork sampler
It would be great to somehow work in “the clan” patterns: Donnelly….

When I went out shopping with mom yesterday I picked up this Mets winter hat – Jackson is the best model ever, when properly motivated…

More Planning Ahead

Ok, so I decided today to go through the copies of Interweave Knits that I have and make a list of what I would like to knit from each issue. The list has been written down, but I want to use this space as a sort of research tool for me to keep track of alternative yarns to use / inspiration from others who have already done the projects.

Making this list I realized that I keep gravitating towards patterns by Veronik Avery – classic looks, not too fussy!

Planning Ahead

On my computer I have a folder for bookmarked sites titled “2006ideas” – it’s stuff I marked as a reminder of things that I wanted to knit. With Christmas vacation here (YAY!!) I have the best of intentions to work my way through the stash – get it organized / matched up with patterns / maybe even get it into that Excel spreadsheet – so I’m ready for the “Knit Through Your Stash” and the “Lime & Violet Sock Marathon”… Maybe when I get the spreadsheet together I’ll print out the patterns and attach them… I don’t know. This also doesn’t include much of the archives of knitty or magknits
